Known for his precision-driven and patient-centric approach, Dr. Desai is dedicated to diagnosing and managing complex pulmonary conditions using evidence-based treatment strategies focused on improving breathing, lung function, and overall quality of life.

Dr. Rushi Desai embarked on his medical journey at Smt. NHL Municipal Medical College, where he earned his MBBS degree from 2010 to 2015. Following his graduation, he completed a rigorous internship at V.S. Hospital, Ahmedabad from 2015 to 2016, where he gained hands-on experience in various medical disciplines.

Dr. Desai completed his MD in Respiratory Medicine from the Gujarat Adani Institute of Medical Sciences. He further pursued a DM in Pulmonary Medicine from Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, becoming one of the first pulmonologists from Gujarat to complete a DM in Pulmonary Medicine. His advanced super-specialty training reflects his strong commitment to comprehensive pulmonary and critical care medicine.

Beyond his clinical and academic work, Dr. Desai is actively involved in social causes. In 2015, he co-founded HOPE — Helping Organisation for Poor’s Empowerment — an NGO dedicated to supporting underprivileged communities. He has served as a Standing Committee Member of JDA Gujarat (2017) and as President of JDA Bhuj (2018).

Dr. Desai is currently associated with the KIMS Heart and Lung Transplant Institute, where he plays an active role in advanced pulmonary care and lung transplant programs. He has extensive experience in diagnosing and treating a wide range of respiratory conditions, including critical pulmonary disorders, interventional pulmonology procedures, and respiratory intensive care management.

Dr. Desai provides comprehensive pulmonary and respiratory care services:

Lung Transplants

Lung transplantation is an advanced surgical treatment for patients with end-stage lung disease who no longer respond to medical therapy. This procedure replaces one or both diseased lungs with healthy donor lungs to improve breathing, oxygen levels, and quality of life. Comprehensive evaluation, transplant coordination, post-transplant monitoring, and long-term pulmonary care are essential components of successful lung transplant treatment and recovery.

Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD)

Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) refers to a group of chronic lung disorders that cause inflammation and scarring of lung tissue. As the disease progresses, breathing becomes increasingly difficult and oxygen delivery may decline. Early diagnosis and specialized management are important to slow disease progression, reduce symptoms, improve lung function, and help patients maintain daily activities and overall respiratory health.

Pulmonary Hypertension

Pulmonary hypertension is a serious condition involving elevated blood pressure within the arteries of the lungs. Over time, it can strain the heart and lead to shortness of breath, fatigue, chest discomfort, and reduced exercise tolerance. Specialized evaluation and treatment are essential for managing symptoms, improving circulation, supporting heart and lung function, and enhancing overall quality of life for affected patients.

Lung Cancer

Lung cancer occurs when abnormal cells grow uncontrollably within the lungs. Early detection is important for improving treatment outcomes and may involve imaging, bronchoscopy, biopsy, and advanced diagnostic testing. Treatment options depend on the stage and type of cancer and may include targeted therapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, surgery, or minimally invasive interventional pulmonary procedures focused on improving patient outcomes and comfort.

Asthma

Asthma is a chronic respiratory condition that causes inflammation and narrowing of the airways, leading to wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath. Symptoms may be triggered by allergies, infections, exercise, pollution, or environmental irritants. Personalized asthma management plans focus on controlling inflammation, preventing flare-ups, improving breathing, and helping patients maintain healthy, active lifestyles with better long-term respiratory function.

COPD

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a progressive lung condition that restricts airflow and makes breathing difficult. Common symptoms include chronic cough, wheezing, mucus production, and shortness of breath. Smoking is a leading cause, though environmental exposures may also contribute. COPD management focuses on symptom control, improving lung function, reducing flare-ups, pulmonary rehabilitation, lifestyle modifications, and enhancing overall respiratory health and mobility.

Pleural Diseases

Pleural diseases affect the lining surrounding the lungs, known as the pleura. Common conditions include pleural effusion, pleurisy, pneumothorax, and pleural thickening. Symptoms may include chest pain, shortness of breath, and coughing. Diagnosis may involve imaging studies and minimally invasive procedures. Treatment focuses on identifying the underlying cause, relieving symptoms, improving breathing, and restoring normal lung function whenever possible.

Occupational Lung Diseases

Occupational lung diseases develop due to long-term exposure to dust, chemicals, fumes, or harmful particles in the workplace. These conditions may affect breathing, lung function, and overall respiratory health. Early diagnosis and treatment are important to prevent progression and long-term complications. Specialized pulmonary care focuses on identifying workplace exposures, managing symptoms, improving lung function, and protecting long-term respiratory wellness and quality of life.

Sleep Disorders

Sleep disorders such as sleep apnea can significantly affect breathing, sleep quality, heart health, energy levels, and overall wellness. Common symptoms include loud snoring, daytime fatigue, poor concentration, and interrupted sleep. Comprehensive evaluation may include sleep studies and respiratory assessments. Treatment focuses on improving airflow during sleep, enhancing sleep quality, reducing health risks, and restoring healthy daily function and energy levels.

Tuberculosis

Tuberculosis (TB) is a contagious bacterial infection that primarily affects the lungs but can also involve other parts of the body. Symptoms may include chronic cough, fever, weight loss, fatigue, and night sweats. Early diagnosis and proper treatment are essential to prevent complications and transmission. Comprehensive TB management includes diagnostic testing, medication therapy, monitoring, and long-term respiratory care to support recovery and lung health.

Pulmonary Function Test (PFT)

Pulmonary Function Tests (PFTs) are specialized breathing tests used to evaluate lung capacity, airflow, and overall respiratory function. These tests help diagnose and monitor conditions such as asthma, COPD, pulmonary fibrosis, and other lung disorders. PFTs provide valuable information about how well the lungs are functioning and assist physicians in developing personalized treatment plans to improve breathing and respiratory health.

Bronchoscopy

Bronchoscopy is a minimally invasive procedure used to examine the airways and lungs using a thin, flexible or rigid camera called a bronchoscope. It helps diagnose infections, tumors, bleeding, airway obstruction, and other lung conditions. Bronchoscopy may also be used for biopsy, foreign body removal, tumor debulking, or therapeutic interventions to improve breathing and support comprehensive pulmonary care and diagnosis.

Thoracoscopy

Thoracoscopy is a minimally invasive procedure used to examine the chest cavity and pleural space using a specialized camera. It helps diagnose and treat conditions involving the lungs and pleura, including infections, pleural effusions, tumors, and unexplained chest abnormalities. Thoracoscopy may also be used for biopsy and therapeutic procedures while reducing recovery time compared to traditional open surgical approaches in selected patients.
